Peer Grief Support Groups for Children and Families

Our BLUE peer grief support groups are designed for families who have experienced a loss to come together in a safe and understanding environment. With age specific groups tailored to children and youth, as well as dedicated group sessions for parents and caregivers, BLUE offers something for every member of the family.

Here’s a sample evening schedule :

5:00 Families arrive and check in

5:00-5:30 Dinner is served and families eat together with staff and volunteers

5:30 Participants are dismissed to their age specific support groups with trained facilitators and volunteer companions. We maintain a ratio of 2:1 children to volunteers for personal attention.     Age groups offered: Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-12, Adults

5:35-6:45 – All groups begin with Opening Circle. Age specific programming is offered and might include experiential activities such as art, peer conversation prompts, and education related to grief. Children also have the opportunity to choose play experiences during this time as well

6:45-7:00 All groups conclude with a Closing Circle

7:00 Children and Caregivers are reunited and sent home with a bedtime snack

Confidentiality is vital, and a standard by which all participants, staff, and volunteers agree.

Why Play-based?

Building Resilience

Connection and Understanding

Accessible and Age-Appropriate

At BLUE, we know that every child’s journey through grief is unique, and play gives them the freedom to process their emotions in their own way and at their own pace.
